T.I.C.L.S. Mission & Approach

The international Center for Leading Studies is an independent, non-profit foundation, aiming to promote emotionally intelligent society leadership with values through programs that disseminate information, stimulate dialogue, broaden personal horizons, expand knowledge, encourage inter-cultural dialogue and challenge perspectives across our intertwined world.

T.I.C.L.S., as an affirmed supporter of continuing education, facilitates acquisition of knowledge as opposed to formal education, considering it the basic tool that can provide opportunities for personal development and rebuild values, at all levels of academic background and all age groups.
The ability to assess reality and to generate new ideas and perspectives, to be able to innovate, can only come from educated discussion. T.I.C.L.S. programs are interdisciplinary and multicultural adapted for each public they address.

Socrates, the ancient Greek philosopher, argued that education was about drawing out what was already within the student. "I cannot teach anybody anything; I can only make them think" he has saidWhen he was asked for the definition of an educated person, he mentioned nothing about knowledge and information.
Instead, he said.. . "..The ones I consider educated are those who:

  • control unpleasant situations, instead of being controlled by them
  • face facts with bravery and logic
  • are honest in all their transactions
  • face offensive people in a compassionate way
  • control their pleasures
  • are not defeated by their failures and misfortunes, and
  • those who are not corrupted by their successes and their glory ...."

Specialized Knowledge and information have replaced the meaning of education as defined by Socrates and many more thinkers after him. "Education is a matter of behavior..." he has said, and behavior is based on values.
Our commitment is to traditional life values and political and economic sustainability according to which, science does not only relate to technological development, but also to human progress and empowerment, by providing new opportunities to all.
Our ambition is to create a fertile environment for tolerance, social cohesion, and awareness of the international dialogue possibilities, through a non-profit, socially conscious, academic initiative that promotes high quality advanced education and intellectual innovation.
We believe that extended interdisciplinary knowledge empowers technocrats, scientists and citizens alike. The quest of answers and solutions relates to every thinking individual who questions every angle, studies, and researches.Critical thinking means asking the right questions that lead to informed decisions.

"The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think—rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with the thoughts of other men" has been said. The Socratic method is defined as "A pedagogical technique in which a teacher does not give information directly but instead asks a series of questions, with the result that the student comes either to the desired knowledge by answering the questions or to a deeper awareness of the limits of knowledge" and a Chinese Proverb says "Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand."

Education means thinking of the options offered by knowledge and have the ability to make an informed choice.

Our programs are different in this sense.
They stimulate (TICkLe) the mind offering education instead of dry knowledge, to develop the knowledge, skill, or character, and they "involve" leading to understanding, directing to the origin of the word in Latin -educere - "to lead forth", "to lead out".. Ultimately, PAIDEIA.
